80% Winrate Lethality Draven Botlane

By Xylia · draven · DRAGON · Patch 7.2d

Draven is one of the most fun AD carries to play once you get used to his axe mechanics. His aggressive playstyle + snowbally mechanic lets us take over games, oneshot enemy squishies and win fast if we are skilled enough.

Build

  • long sword

+12 AD, always buy as it builds into Ghostblade.

  • armorcrusher boots

One of the best boots for Draven as it increases our burst potential and synergies very well into more lethality and % armor pen like LDR.

  • youmuus ghostblade

Providing 55 AD, 15 Lethality, 15 Haste, 40 MS, and 20% Attack Speed. Youmuu's Ghostblade solves every problem that Draven has. It allows Draven to have insanely high burst damage due to Draven's absurdly high AD scaling on his Q (130% BONUS AD). We also want the huge movespeed bonus to help us gain a tempo lead over the enemy, giving us insane map presence and letting us get away with stuff we usually can't if we have the normal Bloodthirster build.

  • the collector

Single-handedly one of the BEST items for Draven. The 10 lethality and 45 Attack Damage WHILE giving crit at the same time gives insanely good value, these stats opens up for a lot of build diversity. The passive synergizes insanely well with Draven’s innate greedy playstyle, letting us score important shutdowns/takedowns. While the only thing holding it back is its build path (dirk + crit cloak is pretty bad), it still remains as a viable option if you are looking for a good item that can act as a gateway from lethality to crit build.

  • lord dominiks regard

The best 3rd item ATM as it further amplifies our damage because we stacked lethality beforehand and adding % armor pen after that makes it so that 2 crits will oneshot a squishy and chunk a tank / bruiser for alot of damage.

  • infinity edge

One of the best items available on Draven, Infinity Edge provides us a ton of damage (65 AD and +30% Crit DMG) at the cost of being extremely expensive (3400g!) We buy this item 4th (depending on builds) because it only gets gold efficient when you have over 60% crit chance.

  • blade of the ruined king

% max health dmg synergizes insanely well with our stacking lethality. Letting us oneshot squishies while melting tanks

  • duskblade of draktharr

A viable alternative to Ghostblade if you really don't care about the bonus movespeed. Duskblade gives +3 more lethality and procs for a good amount of damage + slows helping us get our kills a lot faster than Youmuu’s, only downside being that we lose out on our roaming and tempo pressure from Ghostblade.

  • serpents fang

A viable alternative to Ghostblade / Duskblade into lanes where there are a lot of shields being spammed (Milio, Lulu, Karma). Serpent’s Fang is very strong, being extremely cheap (2800g) while still providing a high amount of AD (50) and 10 ability haste. The passive is still insanely strong even on a ranged champion ((25% shred) (+ 10% per 100 bonus AD), capped at 45%), letting you 3 shot them even through their shield.

  • mercurial scimitar

Buy this as a 3rd or even 2nd item in some scenario when you are playing against heavy lockdown mages (Annie, Lissandra, ...)

  • bloodthirster

Good Alternative to Guardian Angel as the 5th item to max out our crit chance and DPS.

  • hexoptics c44

Alternative to Collector if we need the bonus range in team fights

Runes

  • fleet footwork

Fleet now acts like Hail of Blades With healing, movement speed all the while having basically 0 cooldown. Fleet allows Draven to do the popular triple Q combo from pc League. All you need to do is have 2 axes and fleet up, Auto Auto Q E Auto, this is a triple Q combo that is nearly undodgeable because of the insane attack speed Fleet Footwork gives you. To effectively use Fleet Footwork, you need to keep doing these short 2~3 auto trades and then ping your support to go in once the enemy is 50% hp for a guaranteed kill or burn their summoner spells

  • botanist

Botanist helps with early laning mistakes, you can very much abuse the absurd bonus healing from honeyfruits (+20%!) this rune gives. The other plant effects are also very useful, try to spam Scryer's Bloom and Blast Cones as much as possible.

  • absolute focus

Absolute Focus helps a lot with this build’s snowballing potential by further amplifying our AD, combine that with the lethality granted by our items and our auto attacks will be hitting like a truck.

  • gathering storm

Gathering Storm will be our safety net in case that we cannot snowball hard enough to end games early, the bonus AD from this rune in the late game is nothing to be scoffed at, Draven WILL be a late game champion with this rune in hand.

  • eyeball collector

We take Eyeball Collection in this build to further amplify our burst damage. With the recent changes to how much AD each stack gives and it being easier to stack (1 stack per epic monster ASSIST) it's literally a no brainer if we want to snowball even harder.

  • brutal

2nd set of runes which helps us win the lane phase but is alot weaker mid to late, use this if you are 100% sure that you will snowball hard.

  • cut down
  • legend bloodline
  • zombie ward

Alternative to Eyeball Collection if you have a duoq support who would sweep wards for you.

Summoner spells

  • Flash
  • Barrier
  • Cleanse

Skill priority: Q → W → E

strengths

Strong laning

Great trading

Snowballs insanely quick when ahead

Has alot of lane agency

Strong Mid-game objective control

weaknesses

Low range

Limited mobility

Easy to shut down

Challenging to learn

why this build

This build abuses the insane tempo advantage granted by Youmuu’s Ghostblade and opens up Draven’s insane burst potential with Fleet Footwork. But in return, making his skill ceiling even higher, requiring extreme precision in your positioning and map awareness. One singular mistake WILL put you out of the game. With Ghostblade, Draven can be omnipresent, being everywhere in the map, joining every teamfight, and stealing every jungle camp. Generally messing with the enemy team. Ghostblade is the main enabler of this build. With the bonus movespeed, you are looking to zone the enemy off literally EVERYTHING when you are playing this build (minions, jungle camps, objectives, EVERYTHING). If the enemy mis-steps it is a GUARANTEED kill with an Auto Auto Q E Auto combo.

early game

Lvls 1 - 5: Play for wave control, slow push the wave while poking the enemy laners 1 auto at a time when you have Fleet fully stacked. Do this until your support or their support decides to all in (ALWAYS TARGET THEIR ADC). Repeat this as much as possible until they are under their tower then you can either: call your mid and jungler for a dive / go out and ward for free. 40 Seconds before herald spawn we need to recall ASAP and push out the midlane wave and help with the contest.

mid game

Once enemy tier 1 botlane is down: rush to midlane and push out the wave ASAP then rotate to one of the sidelanes with your jungle / support or both at the same time for look for a play. You are at your strongest in the mid-game so you need to influence the map as much as possible, this means we need to get as many kills / turrets as possible. So push midlane wave -> [optional step: if no one responds to the mid push then we can get their tier 1 tower for free] -> run to either sidelanes with your team and push out the wave and get a kill or two / a turret, WARD THE ENEMY JUNGLE.

teamfights

We would want to play front to back. This means we prioritize who is infront of us and hit them as much as possible since we do alot of damage with this lethality build. If we have vision advantage we can flank their backline and kill out important targets like their ADC and Midlaner, effectively winning us the fight.

situational notes

We can swap out Youmuu's Ghostblade for Duskblade / Serpent's Fang. We can swap out Infinity Edge with the other 4 items.

good against

kogmaw

We out trade Kogmaw once we get level 2, try to avoid all inning Kogmaw at level 1 because of his W empowered autos + Lethal Tempo. After that this is pretty much a free lane since he doesn't have that much mobility and is very squishy.

jinx

Same as Caitlyn, play to trade 1v1 autos because we will always out damage her. Play around her traps or you can just flash over them. We can E her while she is in her W animation for a guaranteed hit and then we can run her down.

caitlyn

Draven vs Caitlyn is a Draven favored matchup, we always in 1v1 poke trades because our empowered autos does alot of dmg. When she tries to get in range for 1 auto we will walk forward and trade autos with her. 10000% of the time we will be up on HP because of Draven's inflated base stats. We can bait her E by simply W'ing forward and then backing off, try to play around your E knockup and slow after she uses her E, be careful of her traps.

kai sa

Draven outtrades her in the early game as long as we sit in the minion wave while doing so because her Q can spread to the minions, letting us reduce the damage taken by alot.

sivir

Sivir can really only sit back in lane and farm with her Q and W, her spellshield doesn't block your autos but it CAN block your E and Ult so try to all in after you see that she popped her spellshield.

vayne

Draven wins short 1 auto trades and all ins vs Vayne because of his Q dmg, try to avoid walls because of her E. Once she uses Q you can reliably run her down if you have your E up.

weak against

jhin

Jhin out ranges us and out damages us in short trades with his Q and empowered 4th shot. Be careful of his W because if you get hit you will most likely die. Try to catch him with E while he is reloading and we can force a favorable trade. Your E can also knock him out of his ult.

smolder

This matchup is pretty much a ticking timebomb, try to end the game ASAP or keep oneshotting him until the game is over. In lane phase we would want to avoid trading with him as much as possible to avoid him getting free stacks with his Q unless we can all in him with the help of our support. Try to not get hit by his W because it has a nasty slow. Time your E so it knocks him out of his E mid flight.

alistar

Try to freeze the wave Infront of your tower, DO NOT PUSH THE WAVE. Alistar can flash behind you and knock you into his tower if you do so. Try to cancel his dash with your E, you would need to E before he does it (its kind of a prediction more than a reaction). Try to play around your jungler as this lane is pretty hard to navigate 2v2.

braum

Avoid Braum's Q as it procs his passive. Save your E for when you know his E shield is down, you can also E while he is using his W to knock him away while he is dashing

leona

Play to freeze your wave infront of your tower, avoid getting into her E range and play for jungle ganks. Try to cancel her E with your E
