Kog'Maw Dragon Lane Wild Rift Guide

Who counters Kog'Maw in Wild Rift? The toughest Kog'Maw Dragon lane counters are Draven, Miss Fortune, and Vayne. Full Kog'Maw Dragon Lane counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.

Overview

Kog'Maw is the artillery carry the enemy team has to kill first. With his barrage active, he out-ranges every other carry and his shots deal percent max health damage, so tanks melt as fast as squishies. Late game, standing behind a good frontline, he is the strongest siege threat in the role. Before that, he is one of the weakest laners in the game: slow, immobile, mana-hungry, and mostly just surviving bullies until his items arrive. Even his death deals damage, since his corpse sprints at someone and explodes. His ultimate lobs artillery from a screen away, poking sieges and finishing runners. The whole champion asks one question: can your team keep something this valuable and this slow alive long enough to matter?

Strengths

  • The longest effective range in the game when his barrage is active, sieging from beyond any answer.
  • Percent max health damage makes him the best tank-killer among the hypercarries.
  • His artillery ultimate pokes, executes, and zones from across the map.

Weaknesses

  • Completely immobile with no escape: every assassin and dive comp targets him first.
  • One of the weakest early games in the lane, dependent on his duo to survive.
  • Slow and mana-hungry early, so his power only arrives as fast as his items do.

Kog'Maw Dragon Lane Counters

Who counters Kog'Maw Dragon Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Kog'Maw in the Dragon lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Draven: Draven's axes bully your weak early game harder than any other matchup, and his snowball can put the lane out of reach before your items ever arrive.
  • Miss Fortune: Her strut and bounces bully your slow frame all lane, and her ultimate punishes an artillery piece that cannot sidestep it. You only take over once your scaling kicks in.
  • Vayne: You both deal percent health damage, but hers comes with a tumble and yours comes with no mobility at all. She dodges your barrage windows and out-spaces you in every skirmish.

Champions Kog'Maw Is Strong Against

Kog'Maw's best matchups in Wild Rift. Kog'Maw holds an edge against these picks in the Dragon lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Twitch: Twitch has to get close to deal his damage, and your Bio-Arcane range keeps him out of it. You are both scalers, but you fight from further away with more sustained damage.
  • Sivir: Her push does not stop your scaling, since you farm safely under tower, and her Spell Shield blocks one shot of a kit that fires hundreds. By mid game you out-range and out-damage her in every standoff.
  • Smolder: You are both scalers, but yours finishes first and out-ranges his. Your barrage out-trades his stacks at every stage, and your artillery punishes the walk-ups his stacking needs.

Kog'Maw Dragon Lane Synergies

The best duo partners for Kog'Maw in the Wild Rift Dragon lane role. The Dragon lane is a 2v2, so queue with one of these picks to make the lane and the mid game much easier.

  • Lulu: The definitive protect-the-Kog pairing: Wild Growth plus shields keep you alive at max attack speed, and Whimsy covers the mobility your kit never had.
  • Braum: He bodies the frontline off you: Winter's Bite slows divers, Unbreakable blocks the poke, and his stun buys the seconds your shred needs.
  • Milio: Cozy Campfire extends your already absurd range and his ult cleanses the lockdown that normally ends you. The safest possible cocoon for a turret with legs.

Early Game

Survive the early game. Farm at max range, lean on your support for every trade, and only use your barrage when the exchange is already safe: the range spike wins poke wars as long as nobody is diving you. Your ultimate's artillery chips the enemy duo without exposing your slow frame. You are not winning this lane. You are farming toward the point where you win everything after it, so every safe minion counts.

Mid Game

Your items arrive and your damage starts to matter. The barrage now wins any long trade your team can anchor, and dragon standoffs bend around a carry who out-ranges the whole pit. Stay glued to your frontline, because divers now hunt you specifically, and spend artillery on sieges and skirmish poke. Every item makes protecting you more clearly worth your team's effort.

Late Game

You are the biggest damage threat on the map, and positioning is the whole fight. With barrage up and a frontline holding, you kill their team faster than they can kill yours: tanks melt to percent damage and carries die in three steps. Stand at max range, move only between barrage windows, and let artillery zone the flanks. Their whole fight plan is reaching you, and your team's whole plan is stopping them.

Teamfights

Park, shred, move, repeat. Start behind your frontline with artillery poke, turn on the barrage as the lines meet, and melt whatever is closest: with your range, that eventually includes their backline. Never chase and never lead, and treat every reposition as a calculated risk between barrage windows. Even your death explosion adds damage when things go wrong, but the goal is simple: be the carry their fight plan dies trying to reach.
