Shen Baron Lane Wild Rift Guide

Who counters Shen in Wild Rift? The toughest Shen Baron lane counters are Sett, Vayne, and Mordekaiser. Full Shen Baron Lane counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.

Overview

Shen plays a different map than his lane opponent. While everyone else trades in one lane, he watches all three, because Stand United shields any ally anywhere and teleports him into their fight. A good Shen turns the enemy's best play into a sudden two-versus-three, over and over. His laning is sturdy rather than scary. The spirit blade empowers his attacks, Spirit's Refuge blocks every incoming basic attack while he stands in it, and the Shadow Dash taunt drags enemies into trades they did not choose. Auto-attack champions find him infuriating, since his W switches off their whole damage plan. What Shen does not do is kill people alone. His ultimate is his win condition, his lane is a holding pattern, and his pick demands constant map watching. Played selfishly he is a worse tank; played globally he wins games from the other side of the map.

Strengths

  • Game-warping global presence: his ultimate turns any fight on the map into a numbers advantage.
  • Spirit's Refuge shuts down auto-attack champions, blocking their whole damage plan in a trade.
  • Sturdy, hard-to-bully laning with a reliable taunt for trades and gank setups.

Weaknesses

  • Very little solo kill pressure: most duelists beat him in a straight fight.
  • His whole pick hinges on ultimate timing, and a cancelled or wasted ult can swing the game against him.
  • Ranged poke wears him down, and falling behind in farm hurts a champion with little damage to begin with.

Shen Baron Lane Counters

Who counters Shen Baron Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Shen in the Baron lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Sett: The W punch is an ability your block cannot stop, his grit absorbs your empowered trades, and your taunt does nothing to prevent his pull.
  • Vayne: Percent-health true damage is exactly what a tank cannot answer, and your W only blocks a small part of her sustained damage while she kites your walk-up and Condemns your dash.
  • Mordekaiser: His damage is mace arcs and passive burn, not the autos your W blocks, and the death realm drags you into a 1v1 where your teamfight-and-peel kit is useless.
  • Poppy: Her W grounds the dash your taunt rides in on, stranding your whole engage, while her buckler shield blunts your empowered autos and she trades back through your block.

Champions Shen Is Strong Against

Shen's best matchups in Wild Rift. Shen holds an edge against these picks in the Baron lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Malphite: He cannot meaningfully hurt you, you can trade into him with empowered autos, and your ultimate answers his teamfight engage by shielding whoever it lands on.
  • Fiora: Your W is one of the few real answers to vitals, since the block denies her empowered hits and her duels stop working. Her splitpush also runs into your global ultimate.
  • Renekton: Blocking the empowered fury trade collapses his advantage, and the taunt drags him into your minions when he dashes in. After his strong levels he fades while you play the whole map.
  • Camille: Her engage wants autos and a clean combo, and your W blocks the first while the taunt interrupts the second, so her commits accomplish little.

Early Game

Trade when the blade is ready and the map is quiet. Pull the spirit blade through the enemy, taunt into empowered attacks, and stand in your W as they swing back; against auto-attackers that block wins the trade outright. Mostly though, farm and stay healthy, because from level 5 your real job begins: watching for the Dragon lane fight where Stand United turns a losing skirmish into a double kill. An even lane plus one good teleport is a won game.

Mid Game

Shove the wave before every play window so your absences cost the enemy a tower instead of costing you one. Your ultimate decides dragon fights, dives, and mid lane collapses, so track every lane's health bars constantly. When you arrive, taunt the most dangerous thing and block what you can. Between teleports, set up your jungler with the taunt: Shen ganks in lanes nobody warded for him.

Late Game

Your job is to rescue whichever fight goes wrong. Hold the ultimate for the moment that matters, like the carry getting dived or the objective fight starting without you, and arrive with a shield that flips the fight. In fights you attend in person, peel: taunt the diver, block the autos, body the skillshots. Shen does not top the damage charts; he decides which team's carry is still alive at the end.

Teamfights

Protect first, taunt second, block always. Start fights near your carry, dash-taunt whatever dives them, and hold Spirit's Refuge for the enemy's biggest auto-attack threat instead of spending it on stray damage. If the fight starts across the map, that is still your fight: shield the ally in the middle of it and arrive. The best Shen teamfights end with quiet stats and a backline that never dropped below half.
