Malphite Baron Lane Wild Rift Guide
Who counters Malphite in Wild Rift? The toughest Malphite Baron lane counters are Darius, Garen, and Dr. Mundo. Full Malphite Baron Lane counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.
Overview
Malphite is built around one of the best teamfight ultimates in the game. Everything before level 5 is setup: once Unstoppable Force is up, every grouped fight carries the threat of Malphite flying in and knocking half a team into the air. His lane is sturdier than it looks. Granite Shield soaks a trade's worth of poke for free, Seismic Shard steals movement speed while it slows, and his armor doubles as a weapon because Ground Slam scales with it. Every tank item adds damage while making him tankier, and the attack speed slow calms auto-attack matchups right down. His weaknesses are just as clear. He is slow, his early health pool is small, and percent-damage or true-damage champions ignore his armor completely. None of it matters if his ultimate lands on the right people.
Strengths
- Game-deciding engage: his unstoppable ultimate can win a teamfight in one cast.
- Armor scaling makes him brutal against attack-damage teams, with tank items doubling as damage.
- Comfortable, poke-resistant laning thanks to his recharging shield.
Weaknesses
- Without his ultimate he is a slow body with little threat, and everyone knows the cooldown.
- Easily kited, and weak before level 5.
- Percent-health and true damage ignore the armor stacking his whole kit leans on.

Malphite Baron Lane Counters
Who counters Malphite Baron Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Malphite in the Baron lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.
- Darius: The bleed ticks straight through your shield and his pull undoes your spacing, so he dominates the lane before your teamfight value shows up.
- Garen: The silence interrupts your trade pattern, his regen refunds your poke, and the spin grinds down your small early health pool.
- Dr. Mundo: Neither of you can kill the other, but his regeneration wins the stalemate and his cleavers tax your shield endlessly.
- Shen: His W blocks the autos you trade with and his taunt walks you out of your shield windows, while his ultimate roams the map during a quiet lane that suits him.
- Sion: The rare tank who out-tanks you: his health pool dwarfs your armor stacking, his charged knockup out-ranges your engage, and his shield soaks your poke, so he wins the long stalemate.
Champions Malphite Is Strong Against
Malphite's best matchups in Wild Rift. Malphite holds an edge against these picks in the Baron lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.
- Tryndamere: Your E cuts the attack speed his whole champion runs on, your armor blunts his crits, and your Q steals the movement speed he chases with.
- Jax: Counter Strike dodges autos, not your slam, slow, or ultimate, and your E strips the attack speed he commits with. His items only beat yours in a late side-lane duel.
- Yasuo: Windwall cannot block your slam or your ultimate, and your E strips the attack speed his crits depend on. His mobility answers none of it.
- Jayce: Early poke is all he really has on you, and every armor item cuts his all-AD damage further until it stops hurting at all.
- Fiora: Armor blunts her vitals, your shield eats her trade attempts, and your unstoppable ultimate is the one button her parry cannot answer, though she gets dangerous past two items.
- Renekton: His fury combo is front-loaded physical damage, so every armor item makes it land softer, and he has no sustain to grind you down once your armor keeps climbing.
Early Game
Trade on shield, back off without it. With Granite Shield charged you can walk up, slow with Q, slam for the trade, and leave ahead; without it you are easy to chunk down. Against auto-attackers, the E attack speed cut wins exchanges they thought were theirs. Survive ranged matchups by farming at max range and letting the shield eat what it can. Your lane goal is simple: reach level 5 healthy, because the champion starts there.
Mid Game
Now every fight on the map is partly about you. Group, look for the flank, and spend the ultimate where it catches two or more, ideally their carry pair. Follow right away with the slam and Q so the knockup becomes a kill window instead of wasted crowd control. Between fights, buy armor: each item is defense against their AD and a bigger slam at the same time. Do not waste the ultimate as a gap closer onto one tank; patience is the whole skill.
Late Game
Your ultimate is a win condition on a cooldown. Track it honestly: with R up, your team can force any objective and you can knock up any group; with it down, play like a regular tank and wait. The best late-game Malphite ults are flanks the enemy never saw, arriving through fog onto carries who thought the frontline was the fight. One good ultimate wins a Baron, a fight, and usually the game.
Teamfights
You have one job: land the ultimate on the most valuable cluster and let your team follow the knockup. Lead with it from fog when you can, follow with the slam, and Q whoever tries to leave early. If their team spreads out to deny you, that spacing is already a win, since five people standing apart fight worse than five standing together. Hold the ultimate until it matters; spending it on one tank throws the fight away.
