Garen Baron Lane Wild Rift Guide

Garen Baron lane counters include Darius, Camille, and Kayle. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3.

How to play

  • Take short trades and heal between them Use your 1st ability for a silencing attack, then your 3rd ability to spin for damage. Back away afterward so your passive can heal you.
  • Use your damage reduction before the big hit Use your 2nd ability just before the enemy's strongest hit to reduce its damage.
  • Finish low-health enemies with your ultimate Do not spend it at the start of a fight while the enemy is still healthy.

Strengths

  • Simple and forgiving: regen erases lost trades, there is no mana or skillshots, and he is nearly impossible to zone off farm.
  • Strong burst into a missing-health-scaled true-damage finisher, plus a silence that stops combo champions mid-pattern.
  • Naturally tanky with his W (2nd), so he survives the burst and crowd control that delete other fighters.

Weaknesses

  • No gap closer, so kiting and disengage leave him with nothing to hit.
  • No hard crowd control, so enemies can simply walk or dash away from him.
  • Predictable: everyone knows the silence-spin pattern, and once Q (1st) and W (2nd) are down he is just a slow body.

Garen Baron Lane Counters

Who counters Garen Baron Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Garen in the Baron lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Darius: Darius's bleed keeps Perseverance (Passive) disabled, and Apprehend (3rd) pulls Garen back when he tries to disengage. Crowd control does not cancel Judgment (3rd), but the displacement keeps Garen in range for Darius to build Hemorrhage (Passive) stacks and threaten Noxian Guillotine (Ult).
  • Camille: Camille wins extended trades with true damage and a shield tuned against you, her wall dash escapes the all-in your kit depends on, and she only gets stronger with items.
  • Kayle: She farms at a range your kit cannot reach and scales into a carry your missing-health finisher arrives too late to stop. Demacian Justice (Ult) has no automatic execution threshold, so Kayle can still survive if its calculated true damage is not lethal.
  • Fiora: Riposte (2nd) can prevent Decisive Strike's (1st) damage and silence, but silence is not an immobilizing effect and therefore does not make Riposte (2nd) stun Garen by itself. Fiora's max-health true-damage Vitals also outscale Garen in the side-lane duel.
  • Vayne: Tumble (1st) keeps Vayne outside Judgment (3rd), Condemn (3rd) interrupts Garen's straight-line Decisive Strike (1st) approach, and Silver Bolts (2nd) bypass the armor and health he normally relies on. Keep the wave near your turret, wait for Tumble (1st) or Condemn (3rd) to be spent, and use brush or Flash to shorten the approach rather than running at her through open lane.

Champions Garen Is Strong Against

Garen's best matchups in Wild Rift. Garen holds an edge against these picks in the Baron lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Yasuo: Windwall (2nd) blocks nothing you do: your silence cuts his dash chain mid-combo, your spin chews through his shield, and his only real window is when both your cooldowns are down.
  • Irelia: Decisive Strike's (1st) silence briefly prevents Irelia from casting another dash or stun, but it does not remove her marks or resets. Time the silence during her committed dash chain, then keep Judgment (3rd) on her as she moves through the wave.
  • K'Sante: Your silence catches him mid-pattern and puts his pull, dashes, and wall slam on hold, and his early levels are weak before he stacks resistances.
  • Jax: Landing the silence before Counter Strike (3rd) goes up shuts down his whole dodge-and-stun plan, and his early levels cannot answer your kit; he only becomes a real duelist once he scales.

Early Game

Farm the first couple of levels and let your regen top you off between waves. Once your kit is online, the short trade is yours whenever you want it: Q (1st) for the speed and silence, spin, and leave before their answer comes back up. The silence is the whole trick, since it locks out counterplay for exactly the window you need. In ranged matchups, do not chase a poke war you cannot win. Sit at the edge of experience range, regen, and punish the one time they step too far forward.

Mid Game

After completing the first fighting item, crash the Baron wave before moving toward Herald. Approach from fog and use Decisive Strike (1st) to silence a reachable mid laner or jungler while allies are close enough to finish the target. Keep Courage (2nd) available for the return crowd control and avoid chasing beyond your team, since Garen has no movement tool for the exit.

Late Game

Your job is to lock down and finish one target. Run at the squishiest enemy you can reach, silence them so they cannot flash or dash away, spin, and cast Demacian Justice (Ult) only when its current missing-health-scaled damage will finish them. The resists from W (2nd) and your items let you survive more of the dive than enemies expect. If their team kites well, peel instead: a silence on their diving assassin protects your carry almost as well as it kills theirs.

Teamfights

Pick one victim before the fight starts, usually their most fragile damage dealer, and spend the whole fight getting next to them. Enter after the enemy's first round of cooldowns, silence, spin, and hold your ultimate until its true damage is lethal instead of using it as poke. If you cannot walk in through the front, wait at the flank. A Garen who arrives ten seconds late to the right target beats one who arrives instantly at the wrong one.
