Poppy Baron Lane Wild Rift Guide
Who counters Poppy in Wild Rift? The toughest Poppy Baron lane counters are Darius, Garen, and Malphite. Full Poppy Baron Lane counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.
Overview
Poppy is the Baron lane's anti-mobility specialist: a small tank with a big hammer whose kit exists to shut down mobile champions. Steadfast Presence grounds dashes mid-flight, Heroic Charge carries people into walls for a long stun, and her ultimate launches the enemy's most important champion out of the fight entirely. In lane she is sturdier than she looks. The buckler from her passive gives her ranged poke and a free shield when she picks it back up, her Q chunks anyone close, and laners who rely on a dash to engage or escape find that button no longer works. Her limits are clear: she needs walls for her best stun, her solo kill pressure is modest, and ranged kiters who never dash give her nothing to deny.
Strengths
- The best anti-mobility kit in the game: grounded dashes and wall stuns dismantle dive champions.
- Her ultimate removes any one threat from a teamfight, a guaranteed answer to fed carries.
- Durable and stable in lane, with poke and a shield built into her passive.
Weaknesses
- Needs terrain: away from walls her signature stun is just a shove.
- Low kill threat on her own, so passive enemies can farm against her safely.
- Ranged kiters without dashes ignore the thing she does best.

Poppy Baron Lane Counters
Who counters Poppy Baron Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Poppy in the Baron lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.
- Darius: No dash to deny, an Apprehend that does not care about your W, and trades your modest damage cannot match.
- Garen: Garen's engage is a walk-up, not a dash, so your anti-mobility kit has nothing to deny, while his regen out-grinds your poke and his silence breaks your trade pattern.
- Malphite: Two tanks with no kill threat on each other, and his armor blunts your hammer, so the lane comes down to whose ultimate shapes fights better.
- Sion: There is no dash to ground and his health pool shrugs off your modest damage, while his shield soaks the buckler trades and his charged Q engages on his terms.
Champions Poppy Is Strong Against
Poppy's best matchups in Wild Rift. Poppy holds an edge against these picks in the Baron lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.
- Irelia: Your W shuts her dash resets down completely, and an Irelia who cannot Bladesurge has no trade pattern left. Denying the first dash usually denies the whole fight.
- Jayce: His poke stings, but his whole escape plan is one dash and your W owns it, so every overextension near a wall risks the stun.
- Fiora: Fiora's Q is a dash, so your W interrupts the dueling pattern her whole champion is built on. This is one of the few lanes where her mobility works against her.
- Riven: Her entire combo is dashes and your W deletes them mid-air, so her burst pattern falls apart without the mobility it assumes.
- Shen: Shen's only gap closer is the taunt dash, and your W grounds it into nothing, leaving a Shen who cannot reach you and has no kill pressure without it.
Early Game
Trade off your passive: throw the buckler, walk over to pick it up for the shield, and Q while the shield covers the exchange. Your real openings are positional: every time the enemy steps near a wall, your E threatens a stun that wins the trade outright. Hold W to cancel their dash at the exact moment it matters, since a grounded engage is a dead engage. Against dashless ranged matchups, farm patiently; your lane was never about killing them anyway.
Mid Game
Group early, because your kit is worth more in skirmishes than in a side lane. Around Herald, a wall stun is a free objective, and your W stops the enemy jungler's dive before it starts. Your ultimate adds the deciding tool: charge it to launch a priority target across the map, or tap it to interrupt and scatter an engage. Few champions shape mid-game fights this cheaply.
Late Game
You are the reason their carries play scared. Stand near your backline, ground the divers, wall-stun whoever keeps coming, and save the ultimate to remove the enemy's biggest threat from the fight; launching the fed assassin away is worth more than any damage you could deal. With your peel tools up, dive comps simply do not work. Pick fights in the jungle, where every wall is a stun for you.
Teamfights
Peel first, remove threats second. Start near your carries and hold W for the moment their divers commit, since the grounding plus slow wins that exchange before it starts. Spend E on whoever reaches your backline anyway. The charged ultimate answers what nothing else can: when their unstoppable champion finally arrives, launch them out of the fight. You win teamfights by removing the enemy's most important champion, and you choose which one.
