Veigar Support Wild Rift Guide

Veigar support counters include Blitzcrank, Thresh, and Galio. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3.

How to play

  • Build stacks with safe spell hits Poke enemy champions while leaving the minion farm to your lane partner.
  • Use your cage to set up your teammate Use your 3rd ability to create a cage; its edge stuns enemies who touch it. Block an enemy's escape or an attacker's path to your damage dealer.
  • Finish a weakened target with your ultimate Let your team's damage land first, then use it when the enemy is low.

Strengths

  • His long stun cage is the hardest lockdown of any mage support, peeling divers and starting picks with one button.
  • Strong lane poke and a stacking skillshot let him chip the enemy duo without ever putting his body at risk.
  • He scales harder than almost any support, turning a quiet lane into fight-ending burst by mid game.

Weaknesses

  • Completely immobile and squishy, so he is the easiest target for every hook and dash in the lane.
  • Everything important is a cooldown, and a missed cage leaves him with no peel or escape until it comes back.
  • He has no shields or healing, so a carry getting poked down gets nothing from him.

Veigar Support Counters

Who counters Veigar Support in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Veigar in the support matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Blitzcrank: His hook out-ranges your cage and pulls one of the slowest supports in the game out of position before the ring is even up. One grab on you usually ends the trade and sometimes the lane.
  • Thresh: Thresh's hook out-ranges your cage, his flay (3rd) interrupts every step forward, and his lantern turns a won skirmish into a two-versus-three before you can react. He dictates the lane until you out-scale him.
  • Galio: All your damage is magic and he stacks magic resist against it, so your burst falls short, his taunt catches you the moment the cage is down, and his bulk wins the fights he starts.
  • Karma: Karma's poke beats your stacking pattern: her empowered flame chips you off every Q (1st) you step up for, her speed boosts walk the duo out of your cage, and her tether roots your immobile frame.
  • Morgana: Black Shield (3rd) can deny the edge stun and the burst setup your pick game depends on, though the cage still restricts movement and creates value for your allies. Her binding also punishes a stacking mage who has to stand still to farm.

Champions Veigar Is Strong Against

Veigar's best matchups in Wild Rift. Veigar holds an edge against these picks in the support role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Sona: Sona is extremely squishy with no escape, so one landed cage deletes her before her heal goes off. Your poke also out-ranges her early auras.
  • Lulu: Lulu's shields blunt your poke but cannot answer a cage that pins her in place, and once her polymorph is used she is just a squishy enchanter with no escape.
  • Braum: Braum's whole lane is a slow walk toward your carry, and slow walk-ups are exactly what the cage punishes. His shield also cannot block Dark Matter (2nd), so your poke lands anyway.
  • Pyke: Phantom Undertow (3rd) can cross Event Horizon's (3rd) edge and be knocked down, but Ghostwater Dive's (2nd) camouflage and movement speed do not automatically collide with a wall unless Pyke leaves through it. Hold Primordial Burst (Ult) until he is low for higher damage; it is not an execute that overrides Death from Below (Ult).

Veigar Support Synergies

The best duo partners for Veigar in the Wild Rift support role. The Dragon lane is a 2v2, so queue with one of these picks to make the lane and the mid game much easier.

  • Jhin: Event Horizon's (3rd) stun feeds Deadly Flourish (2nd), and Jhin's fourth shot adds missing-health damage after Veigar's burst; it is a finisher rather than a fixed-threshold execute.
  • Caitlyn: The cage funnels enemies into traps and headshots, and two long-range zone kits make the lane a minefield nobody wants to walk.
  • Ashe: Her slows walk enemies into Event Horizon's (3rd) walls, and her arrow sets up point-blank cages. You stack ability power off every safe trade she creates.

Early Game

Use Dark Matter (2nd) when the enemy commits to a last-hit or is already controlled, then add Baleful Strike (1st) without walking past your carry. Holding Event Horizon (3rd) can deny an engage even before it is cast. Spend the cage when the enemy support commits, your jungler arrives, or a gank must be stopped. While it is unavailable, stay behind the wave and avoid contesting lane brush without vision.

Mid Game

Mid game your damage starts to matter, but Event Horizon (3rd) remains the reason your team controls space. Set up vision before the six-minute objectives and cage the entrance your team already owns rather than walking alone into the pit. Herald is usually the stronger even trade, while dragon is the better commitment when your composition wants repeated grouped fights toward soul. Roam to mid after the Dragon lane wave is secured, and approach with your jungler so a cage from fog becomes a pick instead of a face-check. Keep enough vision around your carry's next route to stop hooks and dashes from finding either of you first.

Late Game

By now you are a control mage who happens to be the support, and your job splits in two. On defense, the cage is the best peel on your team: ring your carry and any diver who jumps in gets stunned the second they cross the edge. On offense, your nuke from the backline deletes whoever you catch, and a stunned target rarely survives the follow-up. Stand behind your frontline, never in front of it, because your damage is huge and your survivability is tiny. Hold the cage for the engage you have to answer instead of throwing it at the first body you see.

Teamfights

Event Horizon (3rd) erects after 0.5 seconds and lasts three seconds. It stuns and knocks down only enemies that collide with an edge, and each enemy can be affected once per cast; targets standing safely inside are trapped but not automatically stunned. Use that control to land Dark Matter's (2nd) 1.2-second delay, then cast Primordial Burst (Ult) after other damage so its missing-health scaling is higher.
