Sona Support Wild Rift Guide
Who counters Sona in Wild Rift? The toughest Sona support counters are Leona, Thresh, and Blitzcrank. Full Sona Support counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.
Overview
Sona is a support who cycles through auras: she heals her duo, speeds them past a gank, or loads bonus magic damage onto her ADC's next hits. Her poke constantly chips the enemy carry, her passive turns a routine auto into a stinging double hit, and her ultimate stuns a whole clump of enemies long enough for your team to delete them. She is poke, sustain, and a fight-ending stun on one fragile body. In the 2v2 she wins by attrition and tempo. You stand at the edge of poke range, hit the enemy support or carry with your empowered auto, heal your ADC back up between trades, and let the chip stack until the enemy duo has to back or die. She does not need to engage or even move much; she just needs to keep casting. The catch is that she is extremely fragile and stands still to do her job. She has no dash and no escape until her ultimate, and most of her power sits behind that one button. Catch her before she can cast the stun and she is a free kill, so her whole game is spacing, vision, and never being caught a step too far forward.
Strengths
- Constant aura poke plus heal-and-speed sustain lets her out-last almost any lane that cannot force a fight.
- A wide stun ultimate that opens or saves fights and chains straight into her team's follow-up.
- Cheap, flexible power that scales without items, so she pulls weight from the first wave to the last fight.
Weaknesses
- No dash and no escape before her ultimate, so any hook or hard engage that reaches her usually kills her.
- Most of her game-changing power sits in one ability, and once it is spent she only has poke left.
- Squishy and immobile, making her the first target for divers, assassins, and roaming junglers.

Sona Support Counters
Who counters Sona Support in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Sona in the support matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.
- Leona: She walks through your poke, locks you in a chain of stuns, and your fragile frame does not survive the follow-up, since your kit does nothing against a champion who just commits.
- Thresh: One hook ends the trade and probably your life, since you have no dash to dodge it and no escape after, and his pick threat completely out-ranges your poke.
- Blitzcrank: He exists to delete immobile squishies and you are the most immobile squishy in the lane; a single grab pulls you into instant burst your sustain means nothing against.
- Nautilus: His hook roots you in place, his shield eats your poke, and his chain of crowd control lasts longer than your fragile frame can survive.
- Rell: Her crash-and-stun engage was built to punish immobile frames like yours, and your shields barely slow a committed all-in once she binds you.
Champions Sona Is Strong Against
Sona's best matchups in Wild Rift. Sona holds an edge against these picks in the support role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.
- Yuumi: She spends most of the lane attached to her ADC, which leaves the carry exposed to your poke and neither of them able to punish you for it.
- Lulu: Lulu shields and peels but brings no kill pressure of her own, so the lane becomes a poke contest you have the damage to win, though her peel makes diving her backline late a chore.
- Milio: His kit is all disengage and sustain, so he cannot stop your poke, only undo part of it, and steady aura chip out-paces what his heals give back.
- Seraphine: In the aura mage mirror you spike first: your Power Chord is the harder-hitting poke in every exchange, so you win the early trades and shoves outright.
- Janna: Her shield cannot fully absorb your aura poke and she brings no damage to threaten you back, so aggressive trading beats her before her scaling matters.
Sona Support Synergies
The best duo partners for Sona in the Wild Rift support role. The Dragon lane is a 2v2, so queue with one of these picks to make the lane and the mid game much easier.
- Ezreal: A safe scaling duo: your sustain and his poke survive any lane, and by the time Crescendo comes online he has the items to punish it.
- Jinx: You scale together into the mid-game power chords: heal her through lane, speed her kiting, and Crescendo the dive that finally reaches her.
- Miss Fortune: Crescendo into Bullet Time is the cleanest wombo in the Dragon lane: your stun holds the whole duo still for the full channel.
Early Game
Switch to your damage aura, walk to the edge of your range, and tag the enemy support or carry whenever they step up to last hit, then back off before their answer lands. Swap to your sustain aura to undo whatever chip hits your ADC, and save the heal for the moment their jungler shows. You are not fighting here, you are chipping: every poke you land is a recall they have to take and a trade window you take away. You have no escape, so stay near your carry, ward the brush the enemy support engages from, and never wander up the lane alone.
Mid Game
Once your ultimate is up your job gets bigger. Push the wave with aura-empowered autos, then read the map: a stun dropped onto a grouped enemy mid and jungler at dragon or herald starts a fight your team finishes for free. Roam with your speed aura on so you arrive before the enemy support does, and keep your carry fast through every rotation so they are never the slow one in a skirmish. Vision is your safety net, because you have to walk to these fights with no way out if you get jumped on the road. Set up objectives early, poke the enemy off the pit, and hold the stun for when bodies stack.
Late Game
Late game you are pure utility built around your ultimate. Your poke barely matters now, but your auras keep your carry alive and fast, and your stun decides whole fights. Stand behind your frontline, never in a choke where a flanker can reach you, and treat staying alive as your contribution: a dead Sona is a missing heal, a missing speed boost, and a wasted teamfight opener. Hold the stun for the cluster, keep your auras cycling so your carry stays topped up and moving, and let your team do the killing your kit no longer can.
Teamfights
Your fight is decided by one button, so spend it well. The best case is a wide stun across their carry and engage as the teams collide, with your team collapsing before it wears off, but a stun saved for the diving assassin mid-fight wins just as often. Until then, keep cycling auras: heal the focused ally, speed up the carry who is kiting a bruiser, and keep the poke aura up when nothing else is needed. Stand where your heals reach your backline but a hook cannot reach you. Everything good your team does runs through a Sona who is still standing, so protect yourself first.
