Cho'Gath Jungle Wild Rift Guide

Cho'Gath jungle counters include Gwen, Lillia, and Olaf. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3A.

How to play

  • Clear with slowing spikes Use your 3rd ability and angle the empowered attacks through several camp units. Kills restore health and mana through your passive.
  • Set up the knockup Follow an allied stun or your own slowing spikes with your 1st ability, then move into silence range.
  • Save a bite for the objective Before starting a major monster, check your ultimate cooldown, its monster damage, and your available Smite.

Strengths

  • Feast (Ult) offers a second large true-damage hit for finishing objectives alongside Smite.
  • Knockup, silence, and slowing attacks can protect carries or hold a gank target in place.
  • Camp kills provide sustain while ultimate kills build permanent health.

Weaknesses

  • No native dash, so enemies can kite him or keep him away from a contested monster.
  • Rupture (1st) is delayed and easier to dodge without setup.
  • Growing health does not protect him from health-based damage, and a larger body is easier to hit.

Cho'Gath Jungle Counters

Who counters Cho'Gath Jungle in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Cho'Gath in the jungle matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Gwen: Gwen's health-based damage grows more threatening against Cho'Gath's stacked health, and her dash can dodge his delayed knockup. Fight beside allied ranged damage and keep control for when her mist ends rather than accepting a long isolated duel.
  • Lillia: Lillia combines health-based spell damage with movement that makes Cho'Gath's knockup difficult to land. Hold narrow entrances with allies and aim control after another slow or stun instead of walking into an open-ground chase.
  • Olaf: Olaf's ultimate lets him ignore the control Cho'Gath needs to protect himself, while his sustained attacks punish a stationary target. Back away with your team during that window and reserve the knockup for after it ends rather than casting everything into immunity.
  • Kindred: Kindred can attack from outside Cho'Gath's bite range and use repeated hops to avoid the knockup. Their ultimate also denies lethal damage inside its zone, so hold Feast (Ult) until the protection ends and approach behind allied control.
  • Lee Sin: Lee Sin can pressure Cho'Gath's first route and later kick him out of bite range during an objective contest. Ward the approach, keep nearby allies ready to respond, and avoid committing the ultimate until you can remain beside the monster.

Champions Cho'Gath Is Strong Against

Cho'Gath's best matchups in Wild Rift. Cho'Gath holds an edge against these picks in the jungle role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Master Yi: Cho'Gath can layer silence and knockup so Master Yi has fewer opportunities to attack or use his untargetable strike. Wait for Yi to reappear beside his target, then place the knockup and focus him with allies before he gains resets.
  • Kha'Zix: Cho'Gath's health and area control make an isolated burst less decisive once defenses arrive, and silence can delay Kha'Zix's escape. Stay close to allies during vision work and place Rupture (1st) where his jump ends rather than chasing him over a wall.
  • Evelynn: Evelynn prefers a target she can burst and leave, while a prepared Cho'Gath can survive the opening and silence her follow-up. Track her charm and protect an allied carry, then use knockup and bite damage when she commits within reach.
  • Nunu & Willump: Rupture (1st) and Feral Scream (2nd) can interrupt Nunu's channeled ultimate, while Feast (Ult) gives Cho'Gath strong objective finishing pressure. Keep one interruption ready and drive Nunu out of the pit instead of assuming a bite contest is guaranteed.
  • Rammus: Cho'Gath's magic spell damage and true-damage bite reduce the value of Rammus stacking armor alone. Use area control to keep his teammates away during a taunt and avoid repeatedly attacking into his defensive stance when you can wait it out.

Early Game

Start Vorpal Spikes (3rd), add Rupture (1st) at level 2, and Feral Scream (2nd) at level 3. Max the 3rd ability, then the 2nd, then the 1st; rank Feast (Ult) whenever available. Clear from a protected buff through its neighboring camps, then cross to the other quadrant. Angle spike attacks through the group and let Carnivore (Passive) recovery from kills improve your health before entering river. For a gank, walk behind the target when safe and slow them before aiming the delayed knockup. Hold Rupture (1st) for an ally's control or an enemy escape landing point instead of casting at maximum range immediately. After level 5, take an eligible safe monster stack when no important contest is imminent, but preserve the ultimate before an objective; check the in-game stack rules rather than assuming every ordinary camp can add health indefinitely.

Mid Game

Reset before the next major objective and arrive with Feast (Ult), Smite, and enough health to stand near the monster. Use Rupture (1st) to deny an entrance and Feral Scream (2nd) to disrupt an approaching champion's ability sequence. When the monster reaches your combined finishing range, cast the bite and Smite in a tight window. First move enemies away from the pit, because displacement or loss of range can still ruin the attempt.

Late Game

Group early for Baron or Elder and choose a position that keeps both your carry and the pit reachable. Hold a control spell for the opposing jungler while teammates damage the monster. Avoid spending Feast (Ult) on a routine camp immediately before the contest. If an enemy carry is already in lethal bite range and killing them wins the fight, take that opportunity before returning to the objective.

Teamfights

Use slowing spikes or allied control to line up Rupture (1st), then silence a target before their next important ability. Stay between divers and your damage dealers when a backline walk would leave your team exposed. Feast (Ult) deals a fixed amount of true damage rather than killing at any arbitrary health percentage, so check its current value before committing. Preserve an exit when enemies with health-based damage turn onto you.
