Gragas Support

Gragas support counters include Morgana, Janna, and Lulu. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3A.

How to play

  • Keep a clear slam angle Your 3rd ability stops on the first enemy it hits. Approach around the minion wave so you can stun the champion your carry can attack.
  • Peel before chasing Save your slam or ultimate when the enemy wants to dive your carry. Separating their frontline from its follow-up can win the fight.
  • Roam after the wave is safe Help your carry finish a good recall or crash before moving through river. Look for a short catch and return before they can be dived.

Strengths

  • Flexible engage and disengage without needing a full damage build.
  • Strong follow-up when a teammate can capitalize on a short stun or knockup.
  • Damage reduction and passive healing support repeated lane contests.

Weaknesses

  • A missed slam can leave both Gragas and his carry without protection.
  • Long-range poke can deny the health needed for a good engage.
  • Poor ultimate placement can undo allied crowd control or save the target.

Why this build

The support quest occupies the first slot, then Yordle Trap and Dawnshroud turn Gragas's control into useful team damage and durability. Haste boots support his Flash and slam windows. This guide buys utility before personal burst because Gragas must function without taking his carry's farm.

Core Build

Bulwark of the Mountain This is the support quest upgrade, not a separate rush purchase. Its health gives Gragas more room to absorb return damage after a defensive slam. Yordle Trap Buy as the first completed item after the quest slot. A barrel slow or slam enables Catcher, rewarding Gragas for starting a fight his nearby carry can attack through. Dawnshroud Body Slam (3rd) activates the reveal, damage and resistance effect as Gragas reaches melee range, supporting a control build that cannot afford a full AP combo. Frozen Heart Buy against attack-speed carries. Gragas can hold a diver close with his slam while the aura reduces the attacks aimed at his backline. Force of Nature Repeated magic damage can force support Gragas out before he finds an angle. Magic resistance and movement speed help him keep threatening a defensive or offensive slam.

Situational Items

Imperial Mandate Replace Dawnshroud when allies can reliably follow Gragas's slows and stuns and the team already has a durable frontline. The mark increases damage taken without requiring a jungle-sized AP budget. Thornmail Replace Frozen Heart when healing matters more than attack speed. Gragas applies anti-heal with his own barrel and slam damage rather than relying only on enemies attacking him. Amaranth's Twinguard Replace the final resistance slot for extended mixed-damage fights. Gragas must survive the first engage long enough for Twinguard to activate. Chainlaced Crushers Swap the haste boots against heavy magic damage and disables that stop Gragas from protecting his carry with a second spell. Armored Advance Swap the haste boots against physical attack-heavy lanes when Gragas needs to live through the return attacks after his slam. Gargoyle Stoneplate Replace a late defensive slot when Gragas must stand inside several enemies after engaging. Use the shield to survive that commitment, then return to peeling.

Situational choices

Imperial Mandate is an alternative when the team already supplies a front line and will follow your control. Prioritize defensive boots if the lane is threatening repeated deaths. Choose anti-heal for actual healing threats, and do not buy jungle-style burst items at the cost of being unable to survive your first support engage.

Gragas Support Counters

Who counters Gragas Support in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Gragas in the support matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Morgana: Morgana's spell shield can prevent Gragas's control from starting a catch, while her root punishes a missed slam. Draw out or damage through the shield with your team before committing and keep minions between yourself and the binding.
  • Janna: Janna can interrupt or reverse Gragas's approach with her knockup and ultimate, leaving him separated from his carry. Bait the disengage with a barrel threat and keep the decisive slam for after she spends the tool that would stop it.
  • Lulu: Lulu can disable Gragas during his short melee commitment and protect the target with shields and a knockup. Do not spend every control spell into the protected carry at once; force one defensive cooldown, then reset for a second attempt.
  • Karma: Karma's poke, shield and movement speed can keep Gragas outside slam range while draining the health he needs to engage. Use brush and a controlled wave to shorten the approach, and avoid chasing through her tether without allied follow-up.
  • Zyra: Zyra can cover Gragas's approach with plants and a root, while minion and plant traffic makes a clear slam angle harder to find. Clear the immediate obstruction with your carry and preserve your dash until her control spell is unavailable.

Champions Gragas Is Strong Against

Gragas's best matchups in Wild Rift. Gragas holds an edge against these picks in the support role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Leona: Gragas can disrupt Leona's follow-up after she commits into the duo lane, separating her from the damage needed to finish the engage. Save your slam for the enemy approach and knock the opposing carry away if they step forward to follow her control.
  • Alistar: Gragas has a useful defensive slam and knockback against Alistar's direct approach, making it harder for the enemy carry to follow the first displacement. Stand near your carry with an open angle and peel the follow-up instead of starting an unrelated fight.
  • Rell: Rell must commit her position to start the fight, giving Gragas a clear target for a defensive stun or displacement. Avoid standing on top of your carry, then use the ultimate to split Rell's engage from the enemy damage dealers.
  • Nautilus: Gragas can punish the space Nautilus leaves behind after a hook, particularly when the enemy carry must walk forward to deal damage. Keep your slam for peel and aim the ultimate to separate that carry from the rooted ally rather than knocking Nautilus deeper into your team.
  • Pyke: Gragas can absorb some hook pressure with damage reduction and threaten a stun when Pyke approaches through a visible angle. Stand off the straight hook line, interrupt his follow-up when possible, and use your displacement to deny the low-health execute setup.

Gragas Support Synergies

The best duo partners for Gragas in the Wild Rift support role. The Dragon lane is a 2v2, so queue with one of these picks to make the lane and the mid game much easier.

  • Yasuo: Gragas's slam and ultimate can provide the airborne target Yasuo needs for his ultimate. Agree on the intended landing area and avoid moving the target out of Yasuo's follow-up range.
  • Samira: Gragas gives Samira a clear crowd-controlled target to follow while absorbing the first return hit. Keep the ultimate for a useful displacement instead of throwing enemies out of her close-range damage.
  • Draven: A successful slam lets Draven spend his empowered attacks without chasing through the whole wave. Peel after the initial catch so Draven can continue attacking rather than retreating.
  • Xayah: Gragas can hold enemies on Xayah's feather lines and push divers away while she sets up a root. Let her place damage before using the ultimate to move the target.
  • Jhin: Gragas's barrel pressure and slam create a predictable target for Jhin's ranged root. Once the enemy is caught, protect Jhin's firing position rather than sending the target beyond his reach.

Early Game

Use Relic Shield charges while keeping the wave in a position your carry can farm. Threaten Body Slam (3rd) from an open side of the lane, but do not spend it through minions just to poke. Prepare Drunken Rage (2nd) before absorbing an all-in and use the empowered attack if it is safe. Against an engage support, keeping your control available is often stronger than forcing the first move.

Mid Game

Move with the jungler after your carry has a safe wave or recall. Sweep a route, use barrels to pressure an entrance, and look for a slam that allies can follow immediately. If your team already has engage, stand nearer the carry and spend your displacement on the enemy assassin rather than taking a second, unsupported flank.

Late Game

Stay close enough to protect the main damage dealer during Baron or Elder setup. Your health budget is smaller than a solo-lane tank's, so avoid absorbing several poke rotations before the objective. Flash and a clean control angle remain valuable even when your personal damage falls behind.

Teamfights

Body Slam (3rd) can start a catch or stop a diver, but decide which job matters before using it. Cast Explosive Cask (Ult) to separate a target from protection or to create distance for your carry. After the first rotation, back toward allies and wait for another slam instead of chasing alone through the enemy team.
