Jax Jungle Wild Rift Guide

Jax jungle counters include Lee Sin, Lillia, and Gragas. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3A.

How to play

  • Farm toward the two-item core Use your dodge against camp attacks and reset an attack with your 2nd ability. Look for ganks your allies can help complete.
  • Make the stun connect Approach on foot when possible, start your 3rd ability, and save the leap for the target's escape.
  • Keep Riftmaker in both build paths Normally buy it second; when Blade of the Ruined King is needed second, buy Riftmaker third and Hullbreaker fourth.

Strengths

  • Counter Strike (3rd) denies attacks and gives an area stun for ganks or peeling.
  • Mixed damage and repeated empowered attacks make him a sustained threat after core items.
  • Hullbreaker supports epic-monster and turret damage without requiring Jax to abandon his team.

Weaknesses

  • The first clear can be pressured before item spikes and reliable allied setup.
  • Spell damage and crowd control can still punish him during his attack-dodge stance.
  • Spending the leap to begin every fight can leave no way to follow an escape or retreat.

Jax Jungle Counters

Who counters Jax Jungle in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Jax in the jungle matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Lee Sin: Lee Sin can pressure Jax's first route with spell damage and mobility before the bruiser core is complete. Ward your second quadrant and avoid river fights without lane priority, then preserve your leap to respond after his engage.
  • Lillia: Lillia deals spell damage while moving outside Jax's attack range, so the dodge does little to secure a full damage window. Approach behind allied control and hold the leap until she commits movement rather than chasing her through open river.
  • Gragas: Gragas can interrupt Jax's leap approach and displace him when the stun is about to connect. Wait for his first control spell or attack from another angle, and avoid committing both movement tools before his ultimate is used.
  • Kha'Zix: Kha'Zix can invade an isolated Jax and deal ability damage that Counter Strike (3rd) does not dodge. Keep allies close when contesting vision and use the stun after his jump, then avoid following him into darkness without defensive cooldowns.
  • Rammus: Rammus's taunt and defensive stance punish Jax for repeatedly attacking during the wrong window. Stop hitting when possible, let allies pressure him with spells, and save your leap to disengage until the stance ends.

Champions Jax Is Strong Against

Jax's best matchups in Wild Rift. Jax holds an edge against these picks in the jungle role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Master Yi: Counter Strike (3rd) denies the attacks Master Yi needs to sustain damage and can stun him after his untargetable strike ends. Hold the dodge for his commitment rather than using it before he appears, then focus him with allies before he finds a reset.
  • Tryndamere: Jax can dodge Tryndamere's critical attacks and use the stun to consume part of Undying Rage (Ult). Keep your leap for his spin and create distance during his death-prevention window instead of spending every tool trying to finish him early.
  • Volibear: Counter Strike (3rd) dodges the attack carrying Volibear's stun, which can break the timing of his lightning follow-up. Step out of the delayed lightning and avoid offering an easy empowered second bite before resuming the duel.
  • Xin Zhao: Xin Zhao relies on attacks to complete his knockup sequence, giving Jax a useful dodge window after the gap closer. Time Counter Strike (3rd) for those attacks and fight with lane support, since an early item or level lead can still favor Xin.
  • Gwen: Jax can deny Gwen's attacks while she tries to build snip stacks and can enter the mist with his leap. Use the stun to create your damage window, but sidestep the center of her snips and do not treat the dodge as protection from her spell damage.

Early Game

Start Counter Strike (3rd), learn Empower (2nd) at level 2, and Leap Strike (1st) at level 3. Max the 2nd ability, then the 3rd, then the 1st; rank Grandmaster-at-Arms (Ult) whenever available. Begin at the buff your team can protect and clear nearby camps before crossing your jungle. Use the dodge while monsters are attacking, then follow a normal attack with Empower (2nd) to reset the attack. Check lane priority before Scuttle and keep the leap available if an invader can reach you. For a gank, walk behind the target when possible, begin Counter Strike (3rd), then leap after their movement spell so the stun can connect. If that route is unavailable, continue farming and reset for Dusk and Dawn components rather than forcing a low-health chase.

Mid Game

Complete Dusk and Dawn, then decide whether the next fight needs Riftmaker's sustained-combat profile or the situational Blade of the Ruined King detour. Keep Riftmaker third in the detour and build Hullbreaker afterward. Clear toward the next objective, arrive with allies, and use the stun to punish an enemy crossing a narrow entrance. After a successful gank, help the laner hit the turret or take a safe epic monster; do not turn every Hullbreaker purchase into a permanent split push.

Late Game

Finish defenses against the largest enemy damage threats and stay within reach of Baron or Elder. Push a nearby wave only when you can return before the contest starts. Against an attack-based carry, hold Counter Strike (3rd) for the committed damage window and keep the leap to follow their escape. If a dive would strand you, stun the enemy entering your backline and fight beside your carry instead.

Teamfights

Start on a target your team can reach and weave Empower (2nd) into attacks as Spellblade becomes available. Use Grandmaster-at-Arms (Ult) when its active can hit champions to gain its defensive benefit, rather than assuming it grants full resistance when cast out of range. Save Counter Strike (3rd) for incoming attacks, then stun before the target leaves. Keep Leap Strike (1st) for a follow-up or retreat whenever walking into range is possible.
