Nautilus Baron Lane

Nautilus Baron lane counters include Fiora, Darius, and Gwen. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3A.

How to play

  • Farm behind your shield Use your 2nd ability before taking a trade and your 3rd ability to help clear the wave. Keep enough mana for a defensive hook.
  • Trade once, then step back Root the enemy with a basic attack, slow them, and leave while your shield lasts. Long duels favor most dedicated fighters.
  • Bring your lane lead to the team Use your ultimate on a target your allies can reach, then chain your hook and root. Peel for your carry when an enemy dives.

Strengths

  • Reliable gank setup from a basic-attack root and targeted ultimate.
  • Shielded short trades let him farm safely and build a durable health pool.
  • Crowd control remains useful even when the Baron lane produces no kills.

Weaknesses

  • Extended duels against percentage-health damage quickly exhaust his shield.
  • Repeated waveclear and trading can drain his mana before a gank arrives.
  • A missed hook can remove his escape and leave him stranded in a long lane.

Why this build

Heartsteel comes first to build permanent health through safe shielded trades. Use Riptide (3rd) and attacks to manage waves, and let the root and slows create opportunities for a charged Heartsteel attack. Iceborn Gauntlet adds mana and haste while reinforcing the shield, attack, slow, retreat pattern. The remaining slots buy enough resistance to deliver a second rotation of crowd control, with defensive swaps chosen for the opposing damage.

Core Build

Heartsteel Buy first to start stacking permanent health through safe champion trades. Nautilus can shield and keep opponents close with his root and slows, then land the charged attack without chasing a long duel. Iceborn Gauntlet Buy second for mana, haste and armor. An attack after Titan's Wrath (2nd) triggers Spellblade, and the slow field helps Nautilus leave after a short trade. Thornmail The default third item supplies armor and anti-heal. Nautilus can apply Grievous Wounds with Riptide (3rd) or a rooted attack instead of waiting to be hit. Force of Nature Repeated magic damage can wear down Nautilus between shields. Buy this as his magic defense and use the movement speed to reach a root or retreat. Amaranth's Twinguard Finish with mixed defenses for long objective fights. Nautilus's shield and layered crowd control help him survive until Twinguard activates.

Situational Items

Hollow Radiance Replace Heartsteel against a magic-damage lane when immediate resistance and waveclear matter more than stacking health. The area burn helps Nautilus farm while magic resistance softens the trades he must absorb. Randuin's Omen Replace Thornmail when critical strikes matter more than enemy healing. Nautilus stays within attack range after hooking, so crit reduction protects his second shield rotation. Frozen Heart Replace Thornmail against several attack-speed threats with little healing. Nautilus's hook and root keep those enemies close enough for the slowing aura. Kaenic Rookern Replace Force of Nature against a single large magic burst. Its shield helps Nautilus enter with health left to use his own shield after the first spell lands. Chainlaced Crushers Swap the armor boots for these against heavy magic damage and disables that prevent Nautilus from shielding or hooking away.

Situational choices

Against magic solo laners, Hollow Radiance can replace Heartsteel for immediate magic resistance and waveclear. Keep Thornmail for meaningful healing, choose Randuin's Omen for crit, and choose Frozen Heart for repeated attacks. Your job is to absorb the relevant damage and keep control available, not to force a solo kill with a tank build.

Nautilus Baron Lane Counters

Who counters Nautilus Baron Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Nautilus in the Baron lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Fiora: Fiora can parry Nautilus's predictable control and punish his health build with true damage from Vitals. Do not open with a hook into her ready parry; shield a short trade, keep the wave close, and group instead of accepting a long side-lane duel.
  • Darius: Darius wants Nautilus to hook into a long melee exchange where bleed stacks outlast the shield. Keep the hook for terrain or a gank, avoid his outer axe edge, and surrender a minion rather than letting a short root become five bleed stacks.
  • Gwen: Gwen's repeated magic damage and percentage-health attacks punish Nautilus once his shield has been spent. Farm without chasing through her mist, buy magic resistance early, and use crowd control for your team's damage instead of dueling her alone.
  • Mordekaiser: Mordekaiser's sustained area damage keeps going after Nautilus finishes his crowd-control chain, and his ultimate removes the teammates who would supply the damage. Hold your escape tools near the tower and do not initiate a solo duel merely because the hook connects.
  • Vayne: Vayne can kite Nautilus after the first root, while repeated attacks add maximum-health true damage that his armor cannot solve. Give up exposed farm, avoid hook attempts she can dodge into a wall stun, and wait for a coordinated gank.

Champions Nautilus Is Strong Against

Nautilus's best matchups in Wild Rift. Nautilus holds an edge against these picks in the Baron lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Malphite: Malphite's short magic poke is easier to absorb when Nautilus saves his shield for the hit, and neither tank needs to force a solo kill. Farm through the lane, then use your root and ultimate to stop the enemy carry from following Malphite's engage.
  • Sion: Nautilus can interrupt Sion's charged knockup with his hook or a ready passive root, making Sion's long windup risky nearby. Hold that control for the charge and use your shield to leave before his next slow starts an extended trade.
  • Kennen: Nautilus offers reliable lockdown against Kennen once a jungler arrives, while his shield absorbs isolated poke during farming. Save your hook for after Kennen spends his movement spell and use your targeted ultimate before he can cross your team in a fight.
  • Tryndamere: Nautilus can root, slow and shield through a short attack window instead of trying to win Tryndamere's extended duel. Keep the wave near safety and save a hook toward terrain to leave after his ultimate prevents the kill.
  • Yasuo: Nautilus's basic-attack root and shield make short melee trades manageable, even when Yasuo uses minions to reposition. Let him dash toward your side of the wave, root him there, and avoid throwing the hook directly into his projectile wall.

Early Game

Use Riptide (3rd) to secure clustered last hits, but do not hit every wave on cooldown and push without vision. Trade when Titan's Wrath (2nd) is available, root with an attack, and step away before a fighter can extend. Work toward Heartsteel on early recalls, then collect its charged attacks only when the trade is safe. Against a freeze, ask for help to crash the wave instead of spending Dredge Line (1st) on an unsupported all-in.

Mid Game

Clear the side wave before moving and keep Teleport available for the next objective. Arrive early enough to threaten a hook from fog, where the opponent has less time to sidestep. If your carry is the win condition, stand between them and the enemy diver; a defensive root can be worth more than a long-range hook onto the tank.

Late Game

Avoid matching a scaling duelist far from your team. Catch safe waves, then group to contest Baron or Elder entrances with your hook and targeted ultimate. Keep enough health to survive the follow-up after engaging, and swap a damage-specific resistance item when the main enemy threat changes.

Teamfights

Target someone your team can actually damage. Depth Charge (Ult) can start the control chain, while an attack root and Dredge Line (1st) extend it after the knockup rather than all landing at once. Reposition between enemies to apply available roots and shield before the return burst. If an assassin reaches your carry first, spend those tools on peel.
