Bard Support Wild Rift Guide

Who counters Bard in Wild Rift? The toughest Bard support counters are Leona, Nautilus, and Pyke. Full Bard Support counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.

Overview

Bard is a support who spends much of the game roaming. He wanders the map collecting chimes, builds meeps that empower his autos, and can threaten a wall stun in the Dragon lane at any moment. The enemy can never fully track him: a roam becomes a kill mid, a healing shrine turns a lost trade into a won one, a portal puts your jungler somewhere they did not account for. In the 2v2 he plays a poke and pick game rather than sitting still to peel. His Q stuns when it pins a target against terrain or hits a second body, his shrines heal your duo and give a movement speed burst for the engage or the escape, and the meeps add real damage to his harass. Tempered Fate, his stasis ultimate, is the swing tool: it can freeze a diver, save your carry, or zone a whole pit at dragon. The catch is the same thing that makes him exciting. His stun needs a wall or a second target, so a sloppy Bard whiffs the fight. He is squishy, his roams leave your ADC alone in dangerous windows, and a bad stasis can strand an ally or save an enemy you wanted dead.

Strengths

  • Chime gathering keeps him roaming, and a wall stun from fog starts fights the enemy never agreed to.
  • His shrines heal your duo and give a movement speed burst, letting you choose every engage and disengage.
  • Tempered Fate can swing a whole fight: save a carry, freeze a diver, or zone an entire objective pit.

Weaknesses

  • His stun needs a wall or a second target, so in open ground he has no crowd control at all.
  • He is squishy and easy to punish, with no reliable escape once his stun and shrine are spent.
  • His roams leave the ADC alone in 1v1 windows, and a misplaced stasis can strand an ally or rescue an enemy.

Bard Support Counters

Who counters Bard Support in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Bard in the support matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Leona: She walks through your poke, locks your ADC with a point and click stun, and ignores your shields once the chain starts, while your conditional Q struggles to peel her committed all-in.
  • Nautilus: His hook removes the spacing your poke and roam game needs, and every part of his kit is crowd control your shields do not stop, so one landed hook starts a chain you cannot interrupt.
  • Pyke: Pyke out-roams you, threatens picks faster than you set them up, and his grey health sustain recovers your poke damage while his execute punishes any chip on your ADC.
  • Rakan: Rakan engages on demand with a charged knockup and a dash your conditional stun cannot reliably answer, and he is mobile enough to dodge the Q you need to land.

Champions Bard Is Strong Against

Bard's best matchups in Wild Rift. Bard holds an edge against these picks in the support role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Sona: Sona is a stationary aura support with no answer to a pick, and her short range loses to your meep autos while your roams deny the calm lane her duo wants.
  • Soraka: Her whole game is healing through poke, but she cannot heal across the map when you roam, has no engage to punish your wandering, and cannot survive a clean stun and collapse.
  • Yuumi: She cannot answer or follow your roams without leaving her host, and any moment she detaches she becomes a free pick for your wall stun or stasis.
  • Nami: Nami is a squishy enchanter whose bubble is her only real defense, and she cannot punish your roams while her ADC pairing wants the sustained 2v2 you keep skipping.
  • Milio: His cleanse and shields cannot stop a stun he never sees coming from a wall, and he has no engage to punish your roams.

Bard Support Synergies

The best duo partners for Bard in the Wild Rift support role. The Dragon lane is a 2v2, so queue with one of these picks to make the lane and the mid game much easier.

  • Ezreal: He farms safely alone while you roam for chimes and picks, and his poke follows your stun the moment you return. Magical Journey plays into his love of angles.
  • Sivir: Her waveclear holds the lane while you wander, and On The Hunt speeds the whole team onto the targets your stuns and portals catch.
  • Caitlyn: Her range and traps hold a frozen lane alone while you roam, and your stun sets up a free trap plus headshot whenever you play the 2v2.

Early Game

Read the lane first instead of wandering off. Poke with Q when the enemy lines up against a wall or stands behind their minions, so the second hit completes the stun. Weave meep-empowered autos into trades and drop a shrine to win the exchanges your ADC could not win alone. Collect the chimes near lane without leaving your carry in a 2v1, since the speed and mana from gathering keeps your harass going. When you do roam, ping it and make sure the wave will not cost your ADC plates. Track the enemy jungler, because a squishy Bard caught chiming the river alone is a free kill.

Mid Game

Mid game is when your roaming pays off. With chimes banked you move faster than anyone expects, so look for picks: a wall stun on an enemy walking through river without vision, or a portal that lands your jungler behind their backline at dragon. Ward objectives early and stun the first body that walks into the pit, since one landed Q before a dragon fight tilts the numbers your way. Keep shrines stocked near the objective so your team contests at full health with a speed burst ready. Hold stasis for the moment the fight actually turns: it can freeze the enemy engage mid-commit or save your ADC from a dive.

Late Game

Late game Bard is a roaming control piece who sets up ambushes. Keep chiming on the way to grouping so your speed stays high, scout the flanks, and look for the stun that catches a stray carry before the teamfight forms. Around Baron and dragon, your portals and walls let you flank or move your whole team into an angle the enemy cannot see coming. Tempered Fate is your biggest contribution now: stasis the enemy hypercarry out of a fight you are losing, freeze a diver off your backline, or split their team in half so yours cleans up the stranded side. The risk scales with you, since one greedy roam or one stasis on the wrong target loses the game as fast as a good one wins it.

Teamfights

Your job is to start the fight from a flank or break theirs in two. Open with a wall stun on a high value target if the terrain lets the Q connect, then drop a shrine so your team can collapse with the speed burst. Hold Tempered Fate as the swing it is: a good stasis can cut their engage off from their carries, save your ADC from focus, or buy the exact second your team needs to turn. Read the angles, because your stun needs terrain or a clustered body to land, and a Bard who whiffs the opener is a squishy with nothing left. Between roams, position to peel for your carry. An alive Bard threatening the next pick is worth more than a dead one who gambled a stasis.
