Volibear Baron Lane Wild Rift Guide

Who counters Volibear in Wild Rift? The toughest Volibear Baron lane counters are Vayne, Gnar, and Shen. Full Volibear Baron Lane counters and matchups, plus the best build, runes, and game plan for Patch 7.2c.

Overview

Volibear's lane is built around his level three all-in, and few champions threaten first blood this early. His charge stuns the first thing it hits, his bite heals him and hits harder the longer the fight runs, and his lightning claws win most long brawls. His signature trick is his ultimate: a leap that slams down, gives him a big chunk of health, and disables the enemy tower under him. Dives that would kill any other champion are routine for Volibear, so a low enemy hugging their tower is still not safe. His weaknesses are clear. He is slow between cooldowns, his charge is telegraphed, and ranged kiting leaves him no way to start a fight. Volibear wins by landing the early all-ins and snowballing dives before kiting comps get organized.

Strengths

  • Scary early all-in: the charge stun into bite trade wins most melee lanes from level three.
  • His ultimate disables towers, letting him dive in ways no other champion safely can.
  • Strong sustain in long brawls, with healing and ramping attack speed built into his kit.

Weaknesses

  • Easily kited: ranged poke and slows shut down the charge his engage depends on.
  • Telegraphed: enemies who track his cooldowns can just step around the all-in.
  • Crowd control during his charge or dive gets him killed mid-engage.

Volibear Baron Lane Counters

Who counters Volibear Baron Lane in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Volibear in the Baron lane matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.

  • Vayne: She tumbles out of your charge line, shreds your health while walking backward, and her wall stun ends dives that would kill anyone else.
  • Gnar: Mini Gnar kites your charge and pokes from a range you cannot answer, and Mega Gnar has the crowd control to stop your dive, so the stun your lane depends on rarely lands.
  • Shen: His taunt interrupts the dive your all-in is built around, his block soaks the claws that do your damage, and his passive shield lets him out-sustain the brawl.
  • Garen: Garen's regen refunds the damage your bite grinds out, his silence cuts your combo the moment you charge in, and his spin hurts enough that he wins the long attrition fight.

Champions Volibear Is Strong Against

Volibear's best matchups in Wild Rift. Volibear holds an edge against these picks in the Baron lane role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.

  • Tryndamere: Tryndamere cannot burst a tank, and your stun plus bite win the long trade against his spin, though his ultimate can deny the kill at the end.
  • Wukong: His burst is built for squishy targets and you are not one. Your stun breaks his combo, your bite heals through the dive, and your level three all-in arrives before his items make him scary.
  • Malphite: Malphite has poke but no sustain, so your bite out-heals what he takes, and part of your damage is magic his armor does not answer. His ground-targeted charge is the one real threat.
  • Jax: Counterstrike dodges autos, not your charge stun or your bite, so his main defensive tool does little here. He does out-scale the duel once his items arrive.

Early Game

Level three is your first real kill window. Charge in for the stun, bite for the heal, shield up, and keep swinging the lightning claws; most melee laners lose that exchange and the lane with it. Bait out their escape tool before you commit the charge, since it is your only gap closer and everyone knows it. Against ranged matchups, farm patiently and wait for a misstep, a gank, or level five, when the tower stops protecting anyone.

Mid Game

Bruiser items plus your ultimate make you the best diver on the map. Any low laner under a tower is an invitation: leap, disable the tower, kill, leave. Look for skirmishes where your charge stun starts the fight and your sustain finishes it. Drag objective fights toward towers, where the threat of your ult warps enemy positioning. This is your power window, so spend it aggressively.

Late Game

You are a frontline with a dive button. Start fights by charging the most valuable target you can reach, or hold the ultimate to crash onto their backline as the fight begins; the slam plus tower disable makes even defensive fights unsafe for them. Your sustain keeps you alive through the focus, but watch the kiting: without his charge up, Volibear has no way to reach anyone.

Teamfights

Pick your target before the fight starts. The charge stuns the carry if a path exists; the ultimate lands where their formation is softest, ideally with a tower to disable underneath. Bite the focus target for the heal, shield through their response, and keep swinging, because your claws get stronger the longer the fight runs. You do not flank quietly; where you land becomes the front of the fight.
