Vel'Koz Support
Vel'Koz support counters include Pyke, Blitzcrank, and Nautilus. See the best build, runes, matchups, and game plan for Wild Rift Patch 7.3A.
How to play
- Poke beside the wave Fire your 1st ability around minions and split it toward the enemy. Earn support gold while leaving ordinary last hits to your carry.
- Save your knockup for danger Your 3rd ability is your main defensive control. Keep it ready when a hook support or jungler can reach you.
- Channel after the target is controlled Land spells to build your passive, then use the beam from behind allies. You cannot reposition freely while channeling.

Strengths
- Long-range poke can pressure a duo lane without committing to melee range.
- Passive true damage keeps a landed spell sequence relevant against durable targets.
- Strong follow-up damage when allies provide reliable roots or stuns.
Weaknesses
- No dash and only one main defensive knockup make hooks and flanks dangerous.
- Damage items are expensive on support income, especially after an unsuccessful lane.
- A stationary ultimate can be interrupted or punished by a prepared engage.
Why this build
The support quest stays in the build, followed by Luden's Echo and Horizon Focus for a reachable poke spike. Deathcap is a later luxury, while Cryptbloom combines penetration with team utility. Vel'Koz still needs defensive swaps when the opponent can reach him; a theoretical full-damage build does nothing if the beam is interrupted immediately.

Situational Items
Situational choices
Buy an anti-heal component early against meaningful healing and delay Deathcap if necessary. Zhonya's Hourglass replaces a damage slot against a dive but interrupts the beam, so it is a survival tool rather than protection for an ongoing channel. Void Staff replaces Cryptbloom against high magic resistance; never buy both.

Vel'Koz Support Counters
Who counters Vel'Koz Support in Wild Rift (WR)? These champions beat Vel'Koz in the support matchup, with how each one wins. Learn to play around them or ban them in ranked.
- Pyke: Pyke can threaten a hook from fog and reposition faster than Vel'Koz can turn his stationary poke into safety. Keep the knockup for his approach, stay behind minions when the hook is ready, and avoid warding an unlit river alone.
- Blitzcrank: One hook can place Vel'Koz inside a silence and knockup before he can use the range that makes his lane work. Maintain a minion screen and use safe poke after the hook misses, rather than standing in open river to line up a beam.
- Nautilus: Nautilus has several layers of control and a targeted ultimate that make an immobile support vulnerable even if he dodges the first hook. Preserve Flash, stand off your carry's line, and poke only while a safe retreat remains open.
- Rakan: Rakan can cross the distance quickly and turn Vel'Koz's stationary beam into an easy engage window. Hold the knockup for his committed landing and wait until his engage is unavailable before channeling the ultimate.
- Karma: Karma can answer Vel'Koz's poke with shields and movement speed while threatening a root if he stands still to channel. Aim for isolated spell hits, avoid chasing a shielded target, and wait for allied control before using the beam.
Champions Vel'Koz Is Strong Against
Vel'Koz's best matchups in Wild Rift. Vel'Koz holds an edge against these picks in the support role, so look to press the advantage and contest objectives.
- Braum: Vel'Koz can use split-projectile angles and ground spells to pressure a short-range Braum lane without standing beside his carry. Keep distance after applying poke, because a slow or stun still gives Braum's partner a way to start an all-in.
- Alistar: Vel'Koz can repeatedly poke Alistar before he reaches combo range, as long as he stays outside the targeted dash range. Save your knockup for the committed entry and stop harassing the instant your positioning lets him engage on both members of the lane.
- Leona: Vel'Koz has the range to wear Leona down before she finds a clean engage angle. Stand away from your carry, preserve the defensive knockup, and do not confuse a poke advantage with permission to stay after she reaches you.
- Senna: Vel'Koz can threaten Senna with long-range spell angles when she pauses to attack or collect lane pressure. Keep your knockup for her root's follow-up and avoid taking repeated attack trades just to finish a passive stack.
- Sona: Vel'Koz can pressure Sona's low early durability with repeated spells before her healing and teamfight value fully develop. Spread your poke across safe windows and keep a defensive route once she reaches her ultimate instead of channeling in its path.
Vel'Koz Support Synergies
The best duo partners for Vel'Koz in the Wild Rift support role. The Dragon lane is a 2v2, so queue with one of these picks to make the lane and the mid game much easier.
- Jhin: Vel'Koz's poke marks a predictable target for Jhin's root, which then helps land more spells. Both need a safe firing line, so keep the knockup for an enemy trying to cross it.
- Varus: Varus can start a root chain that gives Vel'Koz time to stack his passive and channel the beam. Poke first and commit once the enemy has fewer movement options.
- Caitlyn: Caitlyn's range and traps reinforce the space Vel'Koz creates with poke. Use the trapped or retreating target as a spell opening without spending the knockup that protects both of you from a gank.
- Ashe: Ashe's repeated slows make Vel'Koz's skillshots easier to land, and her ultimate offers a clear channel setup. Keep enough distance to avoid both being caught by one engage.
- Miss Fortune: Their ranged area damage can punish a team that has already been slowed or trapped by an ally. Save Vel'Koz's knockup to protect the channel positions rather than both standing still before enemy engage is spent.
Early Game
Use Plasma Fission (1st) from angles beside the wave, and avoid repeatedly using Void Rift (2nd) through low-health minions your carry is farming. Preserve Tectonic Disruption (3rd) when the enemy support has a clear engage route. Place vision with a safe wave or an ally nearby, because Vel'Koz cannot escape a river catch by simply casting more poke.
Mid Game
Move with your jungler or carry and control an objective entrance from behind them. Tag opponents who approach through a narrow path, then wait for allied crowd control before committing the beam. Do not clear side waves merely to accelerate a support build if a farming teammate can collect them safely.
Late Game
Stay behind a front line and use range to make the enemy enter an objective with less health. Track the diver or long-range interrupt that can reach your channel position. If that threat is missing, keep the beam until it appears rather than revealing yourself with a full stationary cast.
Teamfights
Apply Organic Deconstruction (Passive) with a controlled spell sequence and use Life Form Disintegration Ray (Ult) when the target cannot immediately leave or interrupt. Researched targets take true damage from the beam, so magic penetration does not strengthen that portion. Save your knockup for the enemy who reaches your backline, and cancel a bad channel early instead of accepting a preventable death.
